Eyespot collection mood board - hand painted eye patterns in lime green, oxblood and orange on a scraped chalk ground, with wallpaper and pillow mockups and color swatches

These eyes came straight out of my paintings. The paintings started out as something else, and somewhere along the way the paint turned into teardrop eyes with lime irises and orange centers. No creature has eyes like these. Some have smaller eyes growing out of their tails, and some came loose altogether.

This is the first collection I’ve built directly from my paintings. I didn’t redraw anything: the eyes, the scraped grounds and the crayon who, what, when and why all came from the painted surfaces, pieced into repeats with the brush marks and scratches still in them.

An eyespot is the false eye on a moth or butterfly wing. Five designs on a scraped chalk ground. Which one caught your eye?

Flat squares don’t tell you how big a thing is. These do.

Where to find it

Eyespot is in the Shiny Designs shop on Spoonflower. See the whole collection on fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap, printed to order. The packed orbs are there twice, once at fabric size and once at full wallpaper scale.
