Hello! It’s good to see you again!
First, like the title says, I’ve been painting and have some watercolor sunflowers to show you. This is the first time I’ve painted flowers that I’ve been pleased with. Oh, I’ve tried, so many times, to paint florals but they never turned out just right. They were either too stiff and starchy or too dark or too – something.
But, once I decided to stop fussing around with setting up and all the technical stuff and just draw them and paint – this is what came out. I like that they look lively and loose, yet still representational, but are very much in my style.
Painting Details
On the detail side, these three were all drawn right on the paper with a light lead regular pencil, then painted in a limited palette of yellow ocher, raw sienna, burnt sienna and mars black. (It’s my variation of the Old Master’s palette in Nita Leland’s Exploring Color if you’d like to know more about color palettes.) The final touches to sharpen up a detail here and there were done in Primsacolor colored pencils.
They’re all 8 x 10 and I finally found a good resource for print printing (so Seussian!) so can offer them as prints.
