An early trial of various print making materials…
My Summer Art Residency Begins: Following the Thread
Today marks the beginning of my summer art residency, and I’m excited to finally share it with you. For the next six weeks or so, I’ll be immersing myself in a self-directed creative exploration right here in my own studio, running from May 26 (Memorial Day, fittingly) to July 4.
This project is rooted in a long-held desire: to have something that’s entirely mine, free from outside expectations. I’ve shaped this residency around a theme that I’ve been doing some personal exploration with – “Following the Thread.” It’s about exploring how memory shapes who we are now, how it shifts over time, and how the act of remembering becomes part of the creative process.
I’ll be working primarily with paper-based materials: monotype and collagraph printing, collage, and mixed media fragments. It’s a different avenue from my recent materials and I’m looking forward to seeing how each piece evolves through process and intuition. Throughout the residency, I’ll also create a few pieces for the Art in Hands Project, integrating that larger vision into the flow of this residency.
If you’re curious about what a studio residency like this looks like, I’ll be updating my Studio Updates Feed, posting behind-the-scenes on Substack Notes, and occasionally sending newsletter updates (you can sign up for that here). I’ve also created a dedicated Pinterest Board where I’ll be pinning work-in-progress, inspiration, and related materials.
Whether you’re an artist yourself, an art lover, or simply someone drawn to the texture of creative life, I hope you’ll follow along. Let’s see where the thread leads us.
