Snip Snip, Glue, Glue! šŸŽƒšŸ‘»šŸ¦‡

Hi!

How have you been? Making and creating, I hope…

Let’s talk about handwriting!

Do you dislike your handwriting? Lots of people do but I’m not one of them. It’s completely illegible but I don’t hate it at all – it’s a distinctive part of who I am. When it comes to using my own handwriting and mark making in art, I’m comfortable with that because it expresses ME.

The problem comes when other people need to read it, or sometimes even me. I’ve stood in the grocery store many times with a list that I wrote myself going ā€œWhat? What does this say?ā€ so expecting others to read it is too much, as in the handwritten portions of a zine for example.

Solution! Sort of…

Did you know you can turn your handwriting into a font? You totally can (here’s where I did mine) and it’s fun, free and pretty easy, if a little fiddly. The catch is that if your handwriting isn’t very legible in itself, the resulting font won’t necessarily be better.

I showed my first pass to a friend who could just barely make it out and the second, improved, version to my husband. He asked, ā€œWhy would you make an illegible font?ā€ Then he added that it was still way better than my actual handwriting. Back to work…

If you’re seeing this on mobile, you’ll probably have to enlarge that image to read it. I’m still tweaking this to get to something that’s (mostly) legible but retains the feel and spirit of my handwriting.

Get your Halloween On

Halloween paper crafting is getting going here! I’m starting to play with the elements in my newest Cut & Collage book and am really enjoying them. When I put a collage book together, I have an idea of how the elements and designs will turn out and can be used but the actual physical presentation is always more fulfilling and has more possibilities than I imagined. It’s like a bonus discovery of fun and I want to share it with you. Grab your copy right here!

Keep me posted on your creative doings – I love to hear from you!

You’re Amazing!
